Oscar Scherer State Park and the Friends of Oscar Scherer State Park, Inc. are hosting a National Public Lands Day event on Saturday, September 28, 2013 from 9:00am - 2:00pm.

This free, fun, and family-friendly event will feature live music, tram tours, informational and craft booths, demonstrations, work service project opportunities for volunteers, and activities for kids. The Friends of Oscar Scherer State Park, Inc. will provide a free lunch for registered volunteers. Additionally, the park's normal entrance fee will be waived on this date in celebration of National Public Lands Day!

National Public Lands Day (NPLD), which will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, is the nation's largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands. NPLD brings together many thousands of individuals and organizational volunteers to help restore the country's public lands. These are the places Americans use for outdoor recreation, education, and just plain enjoyment. Last year, nearly 175,000 volunteers worked 2,206 sites throughout the nation.

On September 28, 2013 help us celebrate and recognize our dedicated volunteers and the more than 40,000 hours that they have contributed to Oscar Scherer State Park over the years. Also, learn how you can give back to your community, participate in a work service project, or just enjoy the music and festivities in one of Florida's most unique and beautiful parks. A stand-up paddle board Instructor will also be on the premises, providing free demonstrations to the public. It promises to be a rewarding day, all aimed at supporting and enjoying our public lands, and coming together as a community. We all can make a difference!

If you plan on participating in the work service project, please remember to wear closed-toed shoes, comfortable work clothes, and to bring work gloves.
